How the MBTI Types Will Cheer You Up

Each type deals with the emotions of others in different ways. Feelers are typically more comfortable dealing with emotions, but Thinkers can be great comforters as well. They might simply have a different approach. And even within Feelers, extroverted and introverted Feelers will approach the situation much differently. So let's take a look at how each trait reacts to other people's problems.

INTROVERTED FEELING: Those with Fi as a primary or secondary function will be good listeners. They will listen and take in your words, and almost feel your emotions themselves. They may react to your sad story with quiet empathetic groans, frowns, even teary eyes. Fi doesn't need to have experienced your pain to accurately feel your emotions, especially the sad ones. They will carry around your pain with them even after you leave.

EXTROVERTED FEELING: Those with Fe as a primary or secondary function will be interactive listeners. Groans, cries, laughs. Their face will bare a sympathetic expression for every word you speak. Unlike Fi, Fe does not typically feel your emotion, nor does it weigh them down. They are able to sympathize with you and offer you comfort without taking your emotions onto their own shoulders. Fe will also relate your experiences to their own. They will tell you how they have suffered similar things and may get choked up as they relate an experience they had that is similar to yours.

So in other words:         Fi = Empathy       Fe = Sympathy

And that's not to say Fe cannot feel empathy, or Fi cannot show sympathy. It is simply more typical for Fi to feel empathy and Fe to show sympathy.

Extroverted Thinking: Those with Te as a primary or secondary trait will typically react to the problems/emotions of others with a "Let's fix it" attitude. Te will come up with the most rational solution, the one that makes the most "sense" and can help you get there. They will discourage you from seeing your emotions as a barrier and encourage you to move toward healing.

 Introverted Thinkers:
Those with Ti as a primary or secondary trait will analyze the problem, and run it through their mind comparing the problem with similar problems Ti has already experienced, overcome, and logged. If they know how to fix your problem, they will tell you how and help you. If they don't know, they will offer alternative solutions, such as pointing you in the direction of someone who could help.

When it comes to emotional problems, those with primary or secondary Thinking traits might also tap into their Feeling trait. Depending on the type, that may be Fe or Fi. Such types might feel out of their comfort zone dealing with emotions, but that doesn't mean they don't feel things or are unable to comfort Feelers. On the contrary, Thinkers are able to access their Feeling functions while looking through the lens of rational, objective thought.

Regardless of personality, every person has the capacity to empathize, sympathize, comfort, and love. Here's how each Type shows it:
